WARREN ZEVONDiscography & Lyrics
Warren Zevon, an American rock star, songwriter and musician, is best known for screamers like Werewolves of London, Lawyers, Guns and Money, and Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner.
The rock press and music hobbyist press covers the meaning behind Zevon’s songs, lyrics and music often. A recent review of Lawyers, Guns and Money goes in-depth into what inspired the 1970s hit.
Zevon was a gifted cover artist and was known for performing covers by famous musicians like Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Steve Winwood, Prince and Allen Toussaint. He really began to get famous as a solo artist once Linda Ronstadt performed his music on 1976’s Hasten Down The Wind.
He also wrote major hits recorded by other famous acts, including Poor Poor Pitiful Me, Accidentally Like a Martyr, Mohammed’s Radio, Carmelita and Hasten Down The Wind.
Warren Zevon passed away in 2003 at the age of 56 from mesothelioma, a cancer of a membrane around the lungs and chest lining. Zevon, who had a lifelong phobia of doctors, was driven back to binge drinking by the cancer news after 17 years of sobriety. He was diagnosed in 2002 and passed away in 2003.
